In the Middle

"In the Middle"
Deerhide Bas-relief sculpture. This process is fun but challenging: first a high relief mold is made (I sculpt & assemble forms), then the deerhide is soaked in special stiffening solution, then I pound and stretch the hide around the mold, sometimes nailing it in place. After it hardens, I remove it from the mold, discard the mold, and handsew a small deerhide hanger on the back of the piece. I accentuate the shadows with acrylic paint and add gold leaf to the highlights. "In the Middle" has an additional texture, which involves roughing the surface with sandpaper. It hangs freeform and looks attractive on painted, wooden, or brick walls. 9"x11"

Private Workshops for All Ages

...Yes, I do work with kids as well as teaching at the college level. Costs for painting workshops, including professional paint supplies, canvas, and even on-the-spot framing are: $150 for a 3-hour workshop. I teach painting techniques while the student creates a finished masterpiece that we frame together at the end of the workshop. Great for Father's Day, Christmas, etc... truly a quality gift.
